Salute to Veterans Band Concert

On Thursday, November 9th the Odessa College Visual and Performing Arts Department presented their annual Salute to Veterans Band Concert in Deaderick Auditorium. With Visual and Performing Arts Department Chair Eric Baker conducting the OC Band, and Drama Instructor Mark Kolokoff providing narration and acting as Master of Ceremonies, the audience was treated to a number of popular and stirring pieces. The concert opened with the fanfare from “la Peri” by Paul Dukas, followed by the ever-familiar “Colonel Bogey March”. Mark Kolokoff then read excerpts from the famous “Duty, Honor, Country” speech by General of the Army Douglas MacArthur, set to the music of Harold L. Walters. The rest of the concert consisted of the following performances, in order: “Tribute” by Michael Kamen, TAPS, The Star Spangled Banner, and the Armed Forces Salute – a medley of service songs from each branch of the U.S. military, during which veterans of each respective branch were asked to rise and be recognized for their service by the audience.
